BACKGROUND
Founded in 2005, Magnet Theater has grown into a New York theater institution for anyone interested in exploring comedy. Creators of shows like Search Party and The Black Lady Sketch Show, writers of The New York Times and more have graced the stage in their development. After more than a decade, the improv school and theater wanted to update their branding to be a consistent and holistic system.
JOURNEY
Magnet Theater exists to grow and nurture a community of great improvisers, writers, actors and storytellers united by their love of the work: making smart, original and brilliantly funny comedy. Unlike other improv theaters in NYC, Magnet Theater has not strayed far from it’s scrappy black box origins. Despite those limitations, the community still achieves a high level of craft by staying authentic, resourceful and embracing a DIY attitude.
The logo mark is inspired by creativity in the moment: The lightning bolt is a "spark of an idea", with a the brush aesthetic being a "stroke of genius".
